Government urged to pay farmers to improve animal welfare

Farmers should be financially rewarded for adopting high standards of animal welfare through a new Government stewardship scheme, Defra’s farm animal welfare advisers have recommended. In a new report The Farm Animal Welfare Committee (FAWC) has called on the Government to introduce a Welfare Stewardship Scheme funded under Pillar Two of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
